"Celebrate Accordion Day" is a day of workshops to acknowledge that June is National Accordion Awareness Month. Enlisting the members of Hoosier Squeeze for this day has been a delightful program that Hoosier Squeeze hopes to see become an ongoing event.
The group meets on an ad-hoc basis and has always been organized informally. For each get-together different active members host the group. Many of the get-togethers have taken place in a historic 1850s farmhouse south of Bloomington, belonging to Sophia Travis. No two get-togethers have been the same . . . quite often they serve as a rehearsal for a public event and some times a guest performer will kindly display their talent. In any case, music and refreshments are shared, and the camaraderie is fulfilling!
Hoosier Squeeze is open to beginning, amateur, and professional accordionists. The repertoire includes accordion band arrangements that embrace all levels of playing. There are also many pieces played in unison by the group and each accordionist has plenty of room to play with their own style, skills, and players are welcome to play with or without sheet music.
Ultimately, the Hoosier Squeeze accordion enthusiasts strive to encourage players and promote the current renaissance of the sublime accordion-here in the heartland!
